TSE Energy & Climate Center

About

Toulouse School of Economics has created an exchange platform for its university researchers and students interested in the fields of energy and climate economics. This initiative brings together industrial and academic partners to discuss the economics of energy and climate, giving the opportunity to build new analytical tools to meet new challenges. Regular workshops provide an opportunity to share knowledge on the institutional framework within and outside the European Union, empirical observations and basic theoretical modelling.

Main activities

Scientific production:

  • Development of new knowledge resulting in academic publications
  • Organization of scientific conferences and seminars

Dissemination of economic knowledge:

  • Production of outreach materials and the organization of events meant to inform practitioners, policy makers or a wider audience
  • Participation of researchers in the public debate in France and internationally

The center is organized around two research focuses:

The economics of energy industries

Our researchers investigate how the energy transition modifies energy markets and the industrial organization of the sector. We identify market designs and pricing mechanisms that insure a reliable supply of clean energy for electricity provision and transportation. We also focus on wholesale and retail markets, network tariffs and international trade.

The economics of natural resource and the environment

In this program, our goal is to analyze public policies and business strategies that aim to decarbonate economic activities and improve the environment. We evaluate their impact on the economy, health, biodiversity and the climate, providing recommendations and impact evaluations to practitioners and policymakers.

Network and EU projects

TSE Energy & Climate Center is a partner institution of the Global Excellence in Modeling Climate and Energy Policies (GEOCEP), a European-funded project that provides an innovative economic modelling framework to aid in the energy transition to a zero-carbon economy.

The Center is also a partner of Environment for Development (EfD), a global network of environmental economics research centers. Coordinated by the EfD Global Hub at the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), the network consists of over 200 accomplished environmental economists based in the Global South, with many different specializations.
