The Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) is issuing a call for applications for an Excellence Scholarship Grant for the two consecutive years of a Master’s program. Funded by American Friends of TSE, this scholarship grant will be awarded to one U.S. resident for his/her first and second Master’s years (2020 – 2022) at TSE in Toulouse.
Part of the International Attractiveness School Program, this scholarship will allow a student to be financially supported in his/her training at one of the leading schools of economics in continental Europe. The objective of this scholarship is also to continue to strengthen and establish new links between TSE and the United States.
Eligibility:
An applicant must be:
- a U.S. resident at the time of application;
- eligible to be admitted to the first year of the Master's program at TSE;
- no more than 25 years old.
Amount and use:
The total amount of the grant, €24.000 (allocated over two years), may be used for any of the following expenses:
- registration and tuition fees for the first and second years of the Master's program;
- contribution to living expenses (rental, health expenses, transport, etc.).
The student will benefit from logistical support upon his/her arrival in Toulouse (airport pick-up, housing orientation, administrative formalities, etc.).
It falls to the grant holder to obtain the necessary funds to cover expenses which are not covered by this grant. This grant can be combined with other grants.
Payments:
The payments will be made in several installments per year, according to a specific timetable. The payment terms will be the subject of an agreement signed by the future grant holder and the Jean-Jacques Laffont Foundation – Toulouse School of Economics.1
The grant holder must fulfill all the registration formalities before receiving the first installment of the grant.
Application and timetable:
After completing his/her application for admission to a TSE Master’s program (www.tse- fr.eu/inscription), the applicant should send his/her grant application file by email to the following address – dean.office-tse@ut-capitole.fr – between April 1 and April 10. The candidate must indicate in his/her email the individual registration number given when validating his/her online application to the first year of the Master’s program.
The application file should contain:
- a cover letter introducing the applicant, his/her skills and interests and illustrating the relevance of his/her application with regard to TSE training objectives (https://www.tse-fr.eu/study-tse);
- a resume.
A TSE committee will select the grantee, taking into account candidates’ academic performance and professional projects that are in line with TSE training objectives. Applicants’ financial situations will also be considered.
The candidates are invited to specify in their cover letter if they intend to apply for other grants.
Communication:
During his/her studies at TSE, the grant holder may occasionally be associated with initiatives related to the promotion of student scholarships.

Since 2017, TSE has been included in the list of foreign academic institutions accredited by the U.S. Federal Student Aid Office (deferment option). This means that an American student coming to TSE will be allowed to delay the repayment of his/her loan in the U.S. while pursuing his/her studies in France at TSE. This accreditation, along with the offering of Excellence Scholarships, makes TSE more attractive for students wishing to do Master’s studies in economics.
