The French Prime Minister has asked a commission of independent experts to carry out a full and transparent assessment of the draft trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur.
Managed by Stefan Ambec (Senior researcher INRA and TSE) this committee includes 10 scientific experts in environmental, commercial, agricultural, health, legal, social and geopolitical matters.
The purpose is to provide objective insight into the issues at stake in the agreement in order to stimulate public debate and prepare France’s position in the Council of the European Union.
The conclusions, which will be supplemented by a quantitative impact study and specific work on sensitive agricultural sectors, will be submitted to the Government by the end of the year in 2019 and made available to the public thereafter.
